Dear Everyone:
“Jeannie” thinks I need a pet.
“You need a cat,” she’ll say.
Why?
“It
will get you out of the house.”
Well, that’s just plain silly.
What gets me out of the house is shopping.
Having a cat might mean going to the pet store more frequently,
but that’s about it.
And
having a cat doesn’t get you out of the house, other than emptying the
litter box. Having a dog
would get you out of the house because dogs have to be walked.
Cats, no.
So
no pets, thank you very much.
For now, anyway.
Another thing that gets me out of the house is
ARMA (Association of
Records Managers and Administrators, in case you’ve forgotten.)
They still meet every month, or so; and (almost) every meeting
counts as an hour of Continuing Education (CE) credit.
I need 100 hours by the end of next year.
So far, I have 92.
Why
do I need all those hours of CE credits?
Institute of Certified Records Managers requires it to maintain
my CRM accreditation. And I
worked hard for that Certificate, so I want it to last.
I
even have it on my cards (“A” P Wood, CRM).
That’s right, I have cards.
In this day, with computers and printers, having printed cards is
remarkably easy. They cost
about a dime each. I gave
one to last night’s ARMA Speaker.
She loved it, especially where, instead of a Company name, it
read: “Records Manager At
Large”. With any luck,
she’ll use the email address on the card to send me a copy of her
presentation, which was very interesting, as well as “educational”.
If
not, she’ll send it to our Chapter President, who also happens to be the
Chapter Webmaster. He’ll
post it on the Website and I’ll be able to get to it that way.
Another thing about ARMA is that there are three Chapters in the
San
Francisco Bay Area. The
other two are in downtown San Francisco and
Silicon Valley.
This is truly remarkable.
The entire Greater Los Angeles area has only one Chapter, called
the Greater Los Angeles (GLA) Chapter.
The whole state of Oregon boasts just
one.
We have three.
So
I can go to the City or
Santa Cruz for one or more of their meetings and
get credits for those. And I
can go in the middle of the day, or an evening and not have to worry
about getting up to go to work the next day.
(I love being unemployed!)
Also, Webinars. Lots of
webinars offered by ARMA and other organizations loosely affiliated with
Records Management. Some are
even free. In fact, there’s
one going on this month about using
Social Media (Facebook,
LinkedIn,
Twitter, etc.) that’s worth another hour’s credit.
I’ll probably take it next week.
I can even work on my current crochet project at the same time.
What could be better than that?
Love, as always,
Pete
