Dear Everyone:
And then there were none.
The last
Republican
President was
George W. Bush, the “Shrub in the White House”.
It was painfully obvious that he was more of a Party Puppet than
most. He wasn’t just a
figurehead, he
was the hood
ornament on Dick
Cheney’s car.
And then there was that
tiny, little crash when the bottom dropped out of the economy.
It was the Republican Party that was running the show when that
happened. Unfortunately, the
economy has not bounced back as quickly and painlessly as some people
would have liked.
Meanwhile, back at the Capitol, the Republican Party stated in 2009 that
their ONLY priority was making sure that
Barack Obama
would be a One Term President.
And then came folks, led by
Donny the Trumpet,
howling that Obama just couldn’t
have been born in the US. It
wasn’t his skin color that upset them, they claimed, just his
citizenship.
So the Republicans spent eight long years blocking everything in sight.
They didn’t even consider the possible consequences of “shutting
down the government” if it meant “scoring points” against the
incumbent. Say “Hello” to
consequences.
This time the Republicans tried throwing in everything including the
Kitchen Sink, never realizing that The Sink might come out on top.
And now the Republicans are stuck with Donny the Trumpet.
The country is riding a Wave of Disgust caused in part by the
shenanigans of that same Republican Party.
It is a Golden Opportunity, and Donny is a shameless opportunist who
figures he has enough gold to buy himself the
White House.
The way to be a Leader is to see which way the crowd is going, then run
to the front and shout:
“Follow me!”
Tell the people that they are fed up with the current inept government.
Blame all the political problems on “outsiders”, i.e., China,
Mexico, the Middle East, any other country that has any kind of trade
agreement with the United States.
Claim to support a middle class that is being “squeezed out of
existence”.
Announce how much you’re going to do for the working class, veterans,
and other less affluent groups.
Find a convenient scapegoat, such as migrant workers and/or Muslims, to
blame all the country’s problems on.
Marginalize and ridicule people with disabilities of any kind.
Are we talking about Donny the Trumpet?
No, we’re talking about the rise of the
Nazi Party in
Germany, 1918-1923.
Just substitute the words, “Jews, Gypsies and Undesirables” for
the current
scapegoat-du-jour.
Meanwhile, surfing that same Wave of Disgust is
Bernie the Sandstorm.
Bernie wants to play
Robin Hood: Steal from
the Rich and give to the Poor.
Bernie, it’s time to learn a not-so-new word:
TANSTAAFL.
That means: There Ain’t No
Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
Bernie tells recent college graduates and potential college attendees
that their education should be “free”.
Doesn’t he know that
public education is not “free”?
It’s paid for with taxes.
Bernie plans to tax “the Rich”, forgetting that there is a finite
number of rich people and a seemingly endless supply of “not Rich”
people.
Say “Hello” to reality.
In the meantime, Donny comes across as a fear-mongering simpleton,
unable to grasp the intricacies of a complex problem.
He simply speaks in absolutes with no concept of a middle ground.
Rather than look for a solution to a problem, he grabs the first
available one-size-fits-all mask to cover the problem up.
He wants to “build
a wall” to keep illegal immigrants out.
Or is the “wall” meant to keep in jobs that moved overseas years
ago? Ask Donny for
specifics, and his knee-jerk answer is, “I don’t know.
I’ll have to think about it.”
One word: Yikes!!!
Love, as always,
Pete
