Dear Everyone:
Well, I actually finished the famous Knitting Project this week.
Some Lucky Individual will be receiving the One, and (possibly)
Only Hand-Knitted Neck Scarf as a gift this
Christmas.
I hope she likes it.
As for the “hand-knitted car covers”, relax, fellas; I was only kidding.
After due consideration I have decided that I really prefer
crocheting
to knitting. For one thing:
Fewer “instruments” to drop, lose, misplace, or throw across the
room. I will be returning
“Jeannie’s” two (mismatched)
knitting needles to her this weekend.
I also find that I can crochet much faster than I can knit.
Of course, this may be due to the Operator, rather than the
Craft. But for me, knitting
is more “time-consuming” than crocheting.
Some people might want to point out that “killing time” is one
reason for both knitting and crocheting.
In either case, they “kill” just as much time as playing
solitaire,
playing “Zuma” on the
Internet or assembling a
jigsaw puzzle; but each
(knitting and crocheting) is a bit more productive than cards, games and
puzzles. You actually have
something at the end.
Whether or not anyone really wants that something is another issue.
Ultimately, I crochet as a way to relax; so I’ll continue to use the
“relaxation technique” that suits me best.
In the meantime, my new
sewing machine means that I was able to revive
an old Christmas Project, which I originally started back in 1989.
It worked well back then and I have every reason to suppose it
will do just as well this year.
Hope so, since the results are wrapped and shipped and on their
way to various recipients as of yesterday.
The packages should show up in time for Christmas, but if not, don’t
hold your breath. UPS
“guarantees” they’ll be at their destination by
Boxing Day, which is the
day after Christmas. And
since the Christmas Season “officially” lasts for
Twelve Days, that will
have to be “good enough”.
In other news…
“Jeannie” came down to my place last weekend and helped me pick out a
Christmas Tree. “Santa’s
Helpers” tied it to the roof of my car for the half-mile drive home.
Then we wrestled it into the new stand, which actually went quite
well.
And there it sat all week. I
was too busy with the Christmas Project and various other things to do
more than water it twice a day.
Until yesterday when I got back from my trip to the shipping
company and realized that I had better get started if I wanted the tree
trimmed before Christmas came and went.
So I dug around in the outside closet for the big plastic bag filled
with lights and ornaments from two years ago.
Last year, since we were going up to
Oregon, and since I was
still working in the office, I decided to forego a tree.
I really like these new
LED lights.
You can pretty much just shove them anywhere without having to
worry about them getting hot and setting the tree on fire.
In a couple of hours I had a fully trimmed tree.
“Jeannie” has plans to add some “teddy bears” to the ensemble
when she gets the time.
So it looks like things are basically under control.
I still have some “finishing touches” to be done on those parts
of the Christmas Project that don’t require shipping; but I have until
Christmas Eve to get them done.
“Marshall” will be coming up from
Fresno around the beginning of next
week and we’ll celebrate at “Jeannie’s” place.
Everyone have a Safe and Merry Christmas.
Love, as always,
Pete
