The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

December 16, 1999

Dear Everyone:

Not much time for Letter writing this week.  We have the vendor’s trainer out here from “Idaho Falls” this week.  My Team is learning extemporé during the day and trying to get a day’s worth of work done during breaks and after training ends in the afternoon.  By the time we knock off, we’re all exhausted and brain-dead.

Tooth News…

The Tooth is long gone.  I have a “temporary” tooth (actually a partial plate), which cannot be used for eating.  (Personal Note:  Don’t try to swallow your vitamins with the temporary tooth either.  The results could be disastrous.)  So, when I need to eat, the temporary tooth comes out and lives in a little purple plastic case.  After eating, the temporary tooth goes back into my mouth.  After a little over a week, I’m getting used to this.  This will continue until at least April, at which time the dentist will determine if the time is right to build a bridge.

One positive factor for all of this is, the temporary tooth makes snacking so much trouble that I just don’t bother.  So far, I’ve misplaced about 10 pounds.

In Other News…

Picked up a totally worn out “Marshall” and “Jeannie” at the airport Friday night, returning from their trip to Italy.  They had a wonderful time except for the parts when they were miserable.

On Sunday, “Jeannie” and I went out tree-stalking.  We found two very nice trees and cut them down.  (This accounts for a large number of bruises that I’m sporting this week.)  “Jeannie’s” tree turned out to have a too-short stem, requiring that we get a saw and cut off the bottom row of branches.  But the tree looks fine without them and “Jeannie” has a dandy spray for the garage door.  Her tree is only about 5-½ feet tall.

My tree, on the other hand, barely misses hitting the ceiling.  How it got so tall is beyond me.  It didn’t look nearly that tall before we cut it down.  I haven’t had time for decorating; so for now, it sits in front of the window and I water it every morning and evening.  Like a gigantic house plant, it guzzles up about a gallon of water each day.

I hope to get it decorated this weekend.  And the really good news is that I took last Friday as a vacation day and managed to get all of my Christmas shopping pretty much done.  And Mother arrives for Christmas next Wednesday.

Happy Holidays, everyone!!!

Love, as always,

Pete
