Dear Everyone:
Busy times this week.
I finished the new computer cart Friday night.
On Saturday, I moved the “old” computer, Oberon, into the east
bedroom. He is currently
parked in front of the closet, which is inconvenient, but not
insurmountable. I got the
new cart in place in the west bedroom in time for the
treadmill to arrive
at 11:00 Saturday morning.
By noon, there was still no sign of the treadmill,
so I called the store. The
young man who was supposed to deliver the treadmill had forgotten about
the appointment and, by the way, could I give him the address and
directions again, as he had misplaced those, too.
An hour later, the young man showed up,
dragging the floor model of the treadmill up the sidewalk.
It seems they hadn’t received any new shipments from the
manufacturer and he didn’t want me to have to wait any longer than last
weekend. (He also probably
didn’t want to delay his commission.)
Problem was, in dragging the floor model across the
sidewalk, he also dragged it across the power cord, damaging it in three
places. Bottom line:
The treadmill is in the west bedroom, but doesn’t work because
the wires were stripped.
This necessitated a call to the store manager on Monday.
The manager didn’t see a real problem, since the machine is still
under warranty.
Just call the manufacturer and they’ll send someone to fix it.
This required a call to the manufacturer on Tuesday
(after noting the model and serial numbers Monday night).
Which in turn led to another call to the manager.
Seems floor models don’t rate the same warranty as unopened
carton machines do. The
manager is going to take care of a new cord and a copy of the Owner’s
Manual (which the young man also forgot to bring).
For now, the most exercise I’ve gotten from this
machine has been helping the young man haul it up the stairs, and
climbing over and around it as I got the new computer set up in the same
room.
In fact, I’ve been using the new computer
(tentatively named “Phineas”) since Sunday.
However, most of the files that I use are still on Oberon.
When I went to pay bills Monday evening, (with the
new-and-improved
MS Money 99) I realized that the corresponding budget file was still
in the next room. Ditto the
Weekly Letters and the corresponding envelopes.
Nevertheless, things are shaking out.
I really like Phineas, even with all the getting used to each
other that we have to do.
When I want to listen to music while working on the PC, all I have to do
is pop the CD in and
Phineas takes over, starting the music automatically.
Such service.
Lots of exploring in the weeks to come.
But first, I’ve got to get my
taxes done (with Phineas’ help, of course).
In other news…
“Jeannie” came by last Sunday, bringing a universal
flapper for the downstairs
toilet, which is apparently experiencing some sort of emotional
difficulty. (Like I have
time to deal with that now.)
A thoughtful post-birthday gift, nonetheless.
We went to lunch to celebrate my birthday, did a
little shopping and got home in time for the
Oscar pre-show
and official ceremony. Four
hours and two minutes is a long time to wait, but
Shakespeare in Love won
Best Picture, so I guess it was worth it.
If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s your chance.
If you have seen it, go back and find out how much
you liked it again.
Love, as always,
Pete
PS. My
humor files and Clip Art are still in the other room, too.
