Dear Everyone:
Last October, I received a notice from my eye
doctor that the two years were up and it was time for me to go in and
get my eyes examined again.
But, you will recall, last October I was rather busy trying to sell the
condo and find a new place to live and so, I didn’t really have time to
get my eyes checked. Then,
in November, I was too busy getting settled in.
(During this period of time, my nerves were so
keyed up that I misplaced about 10 pounds which, mysteriously, have not
found their way back yet. It
was an effective way to lose weight; however, I cannot recommend it as a
reputable weight-loss program.
Not when one of the side effects involves taking out a $135,000
loan.)
Then it was the Holidays.
Then, in January,
Versatile
crashed. Then we “got GILed”
in February and March. So it
was April before I felt I had the time to call the doctor’s office and
get a referral to the eye doctor and make an appointment.
It was coincidentally April that I really started to have trouble
reading the newspaper at lunch time.
So I finally got my eyes examined and, this last
Saturday, “Jeannie” and I went up to Antioch to visit cousin “Perry” and
pick out three new pairs of eye glasses.
Cousin “Perry” is doing fine; and so, by the way, is his mother,
cousin “Candace”, who happened to stop by the shop while we were there.
“Jeannie” and I had toyed briefly with the idea of
going to see
Titanic
again afterward, but decided that neither of us really wanted to invest
3 hours, 25 minutes, plus travel time, in a rerun that weekend.
So, instead, I finally installed the last curtain rod in the
living room and got the window scarf put up.
This completed the window treatment project.
It also left me with one too many window scarves.
When I was at the home decorating discount store, I wasn’t sure
if one scarf would be enough.
So I bought two, thinking that, if necessary, I could overlap
them in the middle. But the
one 6’ scarf turned out to be just the right length.
So on Sunday, I took the second, unopened package with the other
scarf back to the store for a refund.
While in the store, having caught the
quality-linens bug from “Jeannie”, I found another complete set of bed
linens (340 thread count, 100%
Egyptian
cotton!) and wound up spending far more than the refund.
But I now have a very happy bed, and can alternate between sets,
which makes laundry day much easier.
By the way, the drapes in the two bedrooms are
working out beautifully. The
ones in the east bedroom keep the morning sun from sneaking in through
the holes in the slats of the horizontal blinds while I’m getting ready
for work. And the ones in
the west bedroom, being much darker, keep the afternoon sun from
overheating the room. And
the drapes on all three windows, purely by coincidence, have the exact
same pattern. So it looks
like I’d planned it that way.
In point of fact, it was blind luck.
(Don’t believe in miracles, rely on them.)
No movies this week.
But I took a look at next week’s calendar.
With the holiday (Memorial Day) and my regular 9/80 day off, I
realized that I could use just three days of vacation and get the whole
week off. So that’s what I’m
doing. I’m planning on
getting some house work done.
And maybe fix up the patio a bit.
But what I’m really hoping to do is go to the movies.
Also rent movies and play couch potato all week.
Lots of movies. So
there should be more to report on after next week.
Until then...
Love, as always,
Pete
