Dear Everyone:
“Jeannie” informs me that I am hopelessly
under-educated in the vital art of “dressing a bed”.
Apparently, the difference between a “European sham” and a
“regular sham” is so obvious to absolutely everyone as to be beyond the
point of explanation. Ah,
well.
We went linen shopping again last weekend, this
time with considerably more success (barring any shams).
This time we went to an outlet center near
Tracy (about 30 miles
east of Dublin, or just on your way to
Modesto).
There we found a couple of patterns I liked at “terribly”
reasonable prices. We also
stopped at another linen discount store in
Pleasanton for a scarf for
the living room window, the only window still lacking “treatment”.
The scarf turns out to be the same pattern as the drapes upstairs
and the same color as the ones in the west bedroom, which allows for
completing a theme (so important, these themes).
I spent my 9/80 Monday Off converting a couple of
twin size irregular flat sheets into a new cover for the featherbed.
I have to admit, sleeping on 310 threads-per-inch
Egyptian cotton
is amazingly comfortable.
Add new pillow cases (still no shams) and a new comforter cover and I’m
in heaven. However, I ran
out of time before I could finish the living room window.
Consequently, although my bedroom is now a haven of comfort, the
living room still looks like a construction site.
Nevertheless, it’s all coming together.
In other news...
Once again, my name will be on the ballot for Vice
President of the Mt. Diablo chapter of ARMA.
It just goes to show how desperate these people are.
How could I turn them down?
On the plus side, our monthly board meetings have gradually
evolved into pretty good dinners in the Conference Room in Company’s
“Livermore” warehouse. After
several company-paid-for pizza fests, we decided to move on to Chinese
cuisine. Last month, we
almost pulled off an order of
Peking Duck, but the timing wasn’t quite
right (you have to order the duck a day in advance).
Better luck in the next fiscal year.
Things continue to be busy (as usual) at work.
We survived the transition to GIL (Global Information Link),
although we continue to have a teleconference every Wednesday morning.
Thus, on Wednesdays, I usually pick up an extra cinnamon-raisin
bagel for “Wilbur”. That way
I’m not guilty if eating in front of others as I try to wolf down my
breakfast and answer questions at the same time.
But it does leave the people at the bagel bakery puzzled as to
why “one plain” Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and “one plain,
one cinnamon-raisin” on Wednesdays.
Maybe they think I’m having an affair.
The next big project at work will be finding a
replacement for
Versatile.
In between crises I try to draw flowcharts of all our work
processes to identify what we do in the system and why.
I, of course, already know what we do in the system and why, but
our Project Manager (so nice
having someone else be the leader for a change) is very fond of
flowcharts, so chart I must.
Luckily, there’s a software that does the less intellectual part.
I just click and drag.
And type in explanations.
So all appears to be going well, if we could just
get the weather to clear up.
Love, as always,
Pete
