Dear Everyone:
A four-day weekend, followed by a three-day
weekend, and you’d think I could have found the time to get my
taxes
done. You’d think.
But things kept getting in the way.
Take this last weekend.
Saturday:
Spent most of the day in the office, importing extended
descriptions for a woman in “Hobby”.
Total time: About
five and a half hours. Plus
another hour trying to get some other things done.
In other words, I pretty much blew my Saturday on office stuff.
Sunday:
“Jeannie” had invited some people to her place for spaghetti dinner.
Problem is, “Jeannie” doesn’t really cook all that much.
I was invited to dinner as well, with the provision that I make
the spaghetti sauce. Left my
place at 12:30. Got home
just in time for
The X-Files
(a very strange episode).
(Come to think of it, they’re all very strange episodes.)
Also, Sunday is garbage night because the garbage collectors
generally arrive very early
on Monday morning, thus taking advantage of the opportunity to wake as
many people up as possible.
So Sunday was shot.
Monday:
I had agreed to send a package abroad via
DHL and it turns out the
nearest (only) DHL drop off is in
Concord, right on the other side of
the airport from “Jeannie’s” office.
But “Jeannie” had to be in
San Jose, so I drove up to Concord to
ship the package and got home by a respectable 2:00 pm.
Then there was grocery shopping.
And after that, I had all the time in the world to work on those
taxes. I’d even already
installed the new Tax Crunching software that would (theoretically) do
most of the work for me.
But then, I’d also taped a
four-hour miniseries
that weekend. I thought I’d
just take a quick look at the beginning while I had a bite of lunch,
then get started on the taxes.
After all, I’d seen that miniseries the first time around.
Not that I remembered any of it.
In fact, I had forgotten how good the
hero looked in those jeans.
I could afford at least an hour, couldn’t I?
After all, it was my
Day Off, wasn’t it?
I can just see myself filling out the request for
an extension on my taxes.
Reason for need for extension:
“The hero looked good in jeans.”
Oh, well, plenty of time next weekend.
After all, the returns aren’t really due for another 14 days.
No need to rush things.
On another subject, what’s with this
El Niño
nonsense? Things were
beginning to start looking like
California in the springtime the past
couple of weeks. Then, last
Wednesday, it was, “Hello!
Deluge!!
OK, ‘bye now.” How
can so much water fall out of the sky in so little time?
I don’t recall authorizing this.
On the plus side, all this rain has produced a
bumper crop of
California Golden Poppies.
Love, as always,
Pete
