Dear Everyone:
Yes, it’s raining.
Again. However,
rumors that we are about to wash out to sea are groundless.
Luckily, “Jeannie” and I live atop a section of geography known
as “Lime Ridge”. Why it’s
called this is unknown. I’ve
never seen any limes around.
But the functional part of the name is “ridge” as in a place higher than
the surrounding landscape.
Things are a tad different in “Livermore”.
“Livermore” lies in a convergence of valleys, hence the title, “Tri-Valley”
area. The parking lot
regularly fills with water when it rains too hard.
That’s why it’s a good idea to park on the higher side.
The upside of this is being inside the warehouse during a really
good downpour. It’s like
being inside a drum; the roof positively
roars.
Quite an experience.
Speaking of “Livermore”, most of the renovation has
been completed. All of the
cubicles have been built and they are
huge -- 10’x13’.
By contrast, the second bedroom in my condo is only 9’x14’-ish.
Each “cubie” is equipped with a U-shaped desk area, complete with
a space specifically designed for a PC and lots of storage space.
With luck, we will move in next Monday and the San Francisco and
“Pleasanton” people will join us the following Monday.
Then things will really get interesting.
Also in the news...
A “listserv”
is a special computer that runs a software that receives and distributes
electronic mail. There are
many of them out there on the
Internet, covering a
wide variety of subjects, everything from fly fishing torecords
management (my personal favorite).
Someone sends a note to the listserv, maybe asking for help with
a particular problem. The
listserv receives the note, then sends it out to everyone on “the list”
(hence the name listserv).
Someone else sends an answer or comment back and everyone on the list
gets it.
I’ve been subscribed to the records management list
for a couple of months now.
Even heard from an old co-worker who’s retired, but who saw my name and
e-mail ID and sent me a note.
There are a lot experts out there, including one person who seems
determined to copy every news article that even remotely resembles
anything to do with records...a classic example of someone with too much
time on his hands.
Most of the entries involve records management in
one way or another although there are occasional digressions,
particularly during the playoffs.
For some reason, the
Australians don’t
seem to think much of America’s obsession with
football.
The attached showed up on the list a few days ago.
There was no attempt to tie it into records management, unless it
is a given that records managers have to deal with lawyers a lot.
Enjoy.
Love, as always,
Pete
