Dear Everyone:
Well, we seem to
have gotten through another primary election OK.
Most of the propositions that I voted for or against either won
or lost. The proposal to
legalize gunning down mountain lions was appropriately shot down, as
were attempts to deny the legal process to people who aren’t giant
corporations. And San
Francisco will get its new ballpark.
Got my
tax refunds this
week, along with a notice from the state tax board informing me that I
had made an error on my return.
It seems that I picked the wrong tax amount from the table and
I’m getting back $66 more than I expected.
I don’t know what they’re talking about.
I double-checked the tax table and the amount they’re quoting
doesn’t even appear anywhere in the table.
But then, who am I to argue with an extra $66?
That pays for almost
half the new sound
card I bought for Oberon this week.
And that went on
special, dropping $10 in price, while I was on the phone with
Gateway.
Fiscally, this has been a pretty good week for me.
(The sound card is what the computer uses to reproduce Captain
Picard’s voice in the Star Trek game
that I don’t actually have yet.
But you can see where things are going.)
Finally went to the
movies last weekend.
“Jeannie” and I saw
The
Birdcage, which is a remake of
La
Cage Aux Folles which, in turn was made into a Broadway musical
that we saw in San Francisco.
So this makes three times that we’ve seen this same basic story.
Armand and Albert
are a charming couple who’ve done a wonderful job of raising a terrific
son who announces that he’s engaged to be married.
The only problem is that Armand and Albert happen to be members
of the same gender and the fiancee’s father is a US senator and
conservative people can be so stuffy sometimes.
Much fun ensues. The
“birdcage” in question is the name of the night club that Armand owns
and Albert stars in. Quite
enjoyable.
Apart from all that,
it’s been a pretty quiet week.
The hills are green, and the ice plant is magenta; all of which
will change in a few short weeks.
Easter is only
a week away.
And yes, I did go
out one night this week to look at the
comet, so I’m
good for the next 20,000 years, until it comes back.
Love, as always,
Pete
