Dear Everyone:
My new PC arrived this week.
I don’t believe I mentioned buying one, because there was going
to be a wait of several weeks before
Gateway would
be able to ship it; and I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up.
But it’s here now, occupying a place of honor in my living room.
Actually, it’s on a cart that allows me to roll it down the hall
to the second bedroom when I’m not using it.
Problem is, I’m always using it.
So I generally leave it next to the lamp by the sofa.
It’s just more convenient.
What kind
of PC, you ask? (As if you
had a choice.)
He’s a
486, running at 66 megahertz, with a one gigabyte hard drive, 24
megs of RAM, a 15” color
monitor, and really cool tail fins.
Comes with
Microsoft Office
Professional 4.3, which means
Word,
Excel,
PowerPoint,
Access,
Bookshelf,
etc. In other words, all the
software that I have on my two office PC’s.
Plus a whole lot of other programs that I don’t know the first
thing about (yet). I’m
looking forward to spending many happy hours getting acquainted.
Just as soon as I can find the time.
My plan for last weekend was to finish putting my
silk ficus tree back together and avoid the crowds at the opening of
Batman Forever.
That was before “Jeannie” called to say that she was picking up
tickets on Friday for Saturday’s first showing.
So much for planning.
All in all, the movie was OK, although “Jeannie”
complained that there were entirely too many explosions, a point well
taken. How often do you have
to blow things up, just to see them go up?
It’s rather like the TV series
The A
Team. Seen one
two-ton van do a cartwheel, seen ‘em all.
But they kept doing it week after week.
(Which is why I stopped watching after a few episodes.)
Back to
Batman. Much better than
Number Two. On a par, in
some respects, with Number One.
Michael
Keaton may have made a better
Batman, but
Val Kilmer does a
much better Bruce Wayne.
I mean, if I had to choose between two millionaires, I’d rather
have the one on the right.
I’ll take Nicole
Kidman over Kim
Bassinger any day.
However, the guy
playing Dick Grayson
(Wayne’s ward) i.e.,
Robin, the Boy
Wonder, is much too old to be a teenager.
But then, aren’t most of us?
As for the villains,
Tommy Lee Jones
and Jim Carey try
to out Over-the-Top each other.
I’d have to say Carey wins.
Certainly an improvement over
The Penguin and
Cat Woman.
All in all, worth a matinee price as long as the popcorn is good.
By the way, I did finish the ficus tree.
A weekend well spent
Love, as always,
Pete
