Child Rearing

When we were little, bitty kids, our oldest brother, "Byron", was being especially bothersome as Mother was preparing dinner one evening.  Finally, in desperation, she "whacked" him over the head with a roll of aluminum foil.  Unfortunately, she didn't realize that the serrated edge was against the inside of her hand until too late, when it pierced the skin, leaving a row of tiny puncture wounds.

Years later, when talking with an old friend of the family, the woman told me:  "I learned so much about raising children from your mother.  For instance, I learned to always make sure that the serrated edge was turned away from my hand before whacking one of my kids over the head with the aluminum foil.”

Words to live by.
