Dear Everyone:
I had my (hopefully) last session this morning with “Geraldine, the
Physical Terrorist”.
Actually, “Geraldine” is really quite nice and very professional about
her occupation. And most of
her attempts to knead me like a lump of bread dough hardly hurt at all
anymore.
I now have enough physical therapy exercises to do at home that it takes
over an hour to complete them all.
Not that I have anything better to do with my time.
Seriously, what could be higher on the priority list?
Most importantly, I haven’t had a “Back Attack” in over a month.
What’s more, I recently noticed when I would make some casual
movement or other, “Hey!
That doesn’t hurt,” the way it used to do.
In all honesty, when I started with “Geraldine”, my intention was not so
much to “feel better” as it was to feel worse more slowly.
While the twice-yearly injections are helping to diminish the
gradual disintegration of my spine, disintegrate it still does.
Molecule by molecule, it is ever-so-slowly melting away.
Given enough time, I will have no spine left; and will become
either a jellyfish or a member of
Congress.
Not that I expect to live that long, of course.
As “Richard” would put it, the family’s “expiration date” will
come sooner than that.
In the meantime, “Geraldine’s” exercises, along with the ones I was
already doing (with “Geraldine’s” approval), are paying off.
I even went to the local sporting goods store to acquire a
yoga
mat. Not for the floor, of
course. I could certainly
get down, but then how would I get back up again?
No, this is one that I roll out on top of the bed.
It gives me just enough traction for some of the routines.
When I told “Geraldine” about it, she not only thought it was a
good idea, she plans to pass it along to some of her other clients.
While I was at the sporting goods store, I noticed that they also sell
elastic bands, and got one with the least amount of resistance that I
can use for one of “Geraldine’s” exercises to increase strength in the
thigh muscles.
My little cache of “exercise equipment” is growing.
Soon I’ll need some kind of corral for them all.
In the meantime, “Less Pain, No Hurt” works fine for me.
Love, as always,
Pete
