Dear Everyone:
Suddenly I’m busier than a one-armed
paper hanger with
hives.
How did that happen?
Back when I agreed to be the vice president of the
Mt Diablo Chapter of
ARMA, I figured, what could it hurt?
VP doesn’t really have to do anything unless someone else doesn’t
show up. For example,
filling in for the Chapter Secretary if she can’t make a meeting.
Nothing to it, really.
Then our Chapter President decided to put her family first and moved to
Idaho. And now I’m the
President.
And, it turns out, one of the duties of the President is to represent
the Chapter at the Annual International
Conference.
I hadn’t really planned on attending the Conference before this,
but it’s in San Diego, which meant I could fly for less than $200.
Hotel is a bit pricey, but I strongly agree with the principle of
staying in the hotel where the Conference is taking place, rather than
looking for something cheaper and spending all your time going to and
fro.
So I’m leaving for San Diego tomorrow.
I expect to have a wonderful time.
In the meantime…
A few months ago I met with the
City Clerk, “Rebecca”, for the city of
San Ramon, which is where I happen to have lived for the past 17 years.
She got my name from a City Clerks Workshop that was hosted by
ARMA last Spring. She wanted
some free Records Management advice, which I was qualified and willing
to give.
More recently, “Rebecca” contacted me.
They have finished revising their
Records Retention Schedule and
expect it to be approved next week.
Would I be willing to come in and help with training their
employees on how to use the New-and-Improved-Retention-Schedule?
Well, of course I would.
I even put together a quick
PowerPoint of about a dozen slides to give
her an idea of what I would present.
She seemed very happy with it.
Then I realized earlier this week that I was scheduled to give the
presentation the day after I get back from San Diego.
Which, of course, meant I had to get the whole thing put together
and delivered it to “Rebecca” before I leave.
Tomorrow.
In fact, I figured out how to save the “handouts” version as a
PDF and
emailed it to her yesterday.
Couldn’t email the actual presentation because it’s nearly 10 mb (all
those illustrations to keep people from nodding off between the bullet
points, of course.) That I
handed to her last night during our monthly ARMA meeting, just before
the Board of Directors meeting.
And did I mention the
Homeowner Association Board meeting this
week, too?
A veritable tsunami of deadlines.
Like I said, suddenly very busy.
(Must remember to print business cards to take to the Conference
with me…)
Love, as always,
Pete
