Love, As Always, Pete

Dear Everyone:

Well, here we are.  Once again we all have to “spring ahead” into Daylight Saving Time, which means resetting all the clocks because The Government says that we have to.

So, I’ve been wondering:  What’s become of all that Daylight that we’ve been “saving” all these years?  Is it in a “bank” of some sort?  If so, where, exactly, is this “bank”?  And how, pray tell, does one go about making a “withdrawal”?

“I’d like to withdraw a couple hours of Daylight to use in my yard this evening.  Got a project that’s almost completed and I’d just like to finish it now.”

How do you “prove” that those hours of Daylight are yours and not somebody else’s?  Is there a special number that you use?  How do you find it?  And where do you keep it, with all those other PINs (Personal Identification Number) and passwords?

(Pop Quiz!!!  How many login IDs and passwords do you currently have?  Really.  I keep a list and just counted:  50.  Yikes!)

Actually, switching “time” for DST is much easier now that it used to be.  I no longer have 3-4 VCRs to reprogram.  Just the DVR, which is part of the cable-box and which gets the time, as well as all the programming, from the “central computer”.

Many decades ago, I went on a business trip to Princeton, New Jersey.  We were up well past midnight when we got there and I wondered how on earth I was going to wake up in the morning for the first meeting.  No problem:  My hotel room faced east and the rising sun came blazing in through the window.  Woke me up just like that.

When I got home, I invested in a small timer and plugged a bedroom lamp into it.  Every morning, literally like clockwork, the lamp came on and helped me to wake up to go to work.  And I’ve had a timer in the bedroom ever since.

Except now that I’m retired, I don’t need it; so that’s one less clock to change.  Still have one in the living room as it’s a good idea to have at least one lamp going on and off to show somebody’s “home” in the evening.  And at least once each month, I’m out “late” for ARMA (Association of Records Managers and Administrators); the lamp is on when I get home.

So this Sunday I’ll putter around, pushing clocks ahead one hour.  Then I’ll go up to “Jeannie’s” place and do the same thing.  (Note to self:  Remember to change the time on the Kindles.)

Sure would like to know where they keep all that Daylight we’ve been “saving”.

Love, as always,

Pete
