Dear Everyone:
I am currently what you might call “BC”.
Between Crises.
The Big Project, which “Babette” originally brought me in to help with
last May, concluded at the end of the year, just in time for all the
management-types to qualify for their bonuses.
Actually, it sort of finished in the third quarter, but a great
many “enhancements” were put into place in the fourth quarter.
In other words: The Crisis
has Passed.
For this quarter, only a few “enhancements” are being worked on.
The Result:
“Ludmilla” has no testing planned.
So she doesn’t need my help.
In addition, she has contracted one of the “flu” ailments making
the rounds and is presently working from home.
“Babette” had it in mind that I could work on “documenting” processes
for some of the
system administration functions that people on the
“inside” of the system use.
Sort of “How To…” set up a Service Manager, add someone to a Workgroup,
create a Record Class, and so on.
I’m actually pretty good at this sort of thing.
I can learn something technical, then “translate” it so that
less-technical people can understand it.
But first, I have to learn it myself.
And therein lies the problem.
The guy who really knew how to do most of the “behind-the-scenes
stuff” got moved to a new job and is less-than-available these days.
“Babette” figured “Balthazar” could take over, but “Balthazar”
doesn’t know what “Babette” wants.
And where is “Babette”?
She’s currently serving as Juror Number Twelve in a trial in Oakland
that’s expected to last three weeks.
In the meantime, “Balthazar” has today as his 9/80 Friday Off.
So, even if “Babette” has a whole slate of things for “Balthazar”
to show me, it won’t happen until next week.
Consequently, I made “an executive decision” to take today as an
“Unscheduled Non-Holiday”.
It doesn’t make sense to go into the office and do nothing for eight
hours. I’d rather do that at
home.
I swept the patio last weekend and it’s whetted my appetite for some
pre-Spring Cleaning. Or not.
Maybe just some pre-Spring television watching.
Besides, it gives me a chance to see if the
quail have come back
to visit my patio and bird feeders.
Love, as always,
Pete
