Love, As Always, Pete

The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

April 13, 2012

Dear Everyone:

Still recovering, oh so s-l-o-w-l-y from The Shingles (three weeks and counting.)  The worst of the rashes have died down, but some areas still want to itch and/or ache in a blatant bid for attention.  Time will tell.

I had a one-year follow-up with my hip surgeon; actually with his “physician assistant”, who proclaimed me “fit as a fiddle, come back in another year.”  And get more exercise.

I confess, I stopped using the “gym” across the street when things got “busy” before Christmas.  I was planning to go back in January, but then I caught a cold.  And put it off.  Cold weather, getting my Income Taxes done, any excuse is good.  Now I’m getting over The Shingles.

But I really, really do plan to get back on the treadmill, figuratively and literally.  Every time I see an ad for Disneyland, I think, “Gotta get back in shape so we can go to Disneyland!”  No better reason than that.  Plus, I’m still paying for Rhapsody every month and haven’t used my MP3 player in ages.

The way it works is:  You pay just under $15 each month, on your credit card.  This allows you to download all the “subscription” music you want.  As long as you log in once each month and update the device.

Then I can listen to all the music I want while I walk and cycle in the oh-so-convenient gym across the street.  Starting next week.  When The Shingles are completely gone.

In other news…

“Jeannie” didn’t have “any work” last Monday, so we went to see Mirror, Mirror.  This is a new movie based, ever so loosely, on the Snow White fairy tale, with Julia Roberts as the evil queen/stepmother.  Nathan Lane has a field day playing the hapless courtier who lives to grovel.

Lily Collins (I never heard of her either) portrays the pretty princess with a touch of feminism.  Armie Hammer (yes, I checked, that really is his name) plays the handsome prince.  And the usual assortment of dwarves.  Also, Sean Bean as the King who spends most of the movie Missing In Action (MIA) until the Big Finish, which “Jeannie” predicted halfway through the popcorn.

As a story goes, it was fun to watch.  What will be more interesting is to see if it gets nominated for Best Costume Design—gorgeous Eighteenth Century gowns—and/or Set Decoration—castle on a ridiculous promontory reminiscent of the Bavarian fancies that dot the landscape in certain parts of Europe.

In any case, a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours ending with a happy-go-lucky songfest having nothing to do with anything.

Love, as always,

Pete
