Dear Everyone:
I had another meeting with my “Transition
Coordinator” yesterday. We
were supposed to meet last week, but I got a sudden email from the
office assistant that the Coordinator had to go out of town and would
re-schedule as needed. For
me, it was a bit of a reprieve as I had not yet begun on my “homework”
assignment, which was to take a series of “Webinars” on how to retire
and read up on a “retirement success guide”.
On Monday, she sent me an email with two
attachments that she wanted me to work on and get back to her before
Wednesday so she would have time to go over them before we met.
I suspect she was on “auto pilot” as I can see no real
requirement to practice a “90-Second Interview” and a “Marketing Plan”
for retirement. It’s so nice
not to be frantically searching for a new job.
We had a lovely chat about
resumes and what
companies might be looking for a laid-back, experienced office worker
who might be willing to look at part-time work sometime in the future.
Like next year, at the earliest.
But, as long as I have access to “experts”, I might
as well go ahead and draft a resume for future use.
Even if you want to do volunteer work, they like to know just
what you can do that they may, or may not, have a use for.
And my time at the “Transition Company” is limited to a few
months following termination.
In the meantime, there were no “Retirement
Webinars” available when I first looked for them.
But by last week a whole series had opened up and I was able to
register for them. So next
week will be filled with advice on how to relax and enjoy retirement.
Can’t wait.
In other news…
I still have tons of work to do on the computer.
For one thing, I haven’t really done anything with my checking
account since last year.
Collapsing from a heart attack is one way for Nature to say, “Don’t
worry about the little stuff.”
Nevertheless, I keep an eye on the balance and really do plan to
update the system with all the deposits and outgoing checks for the last
7-8 months.
Ditto the “Out-of-Pocket-Expenses”, which I usually
record on my cell phone.
Again, it’s months since it was backed up.
At least I know when was the last time “Jeannie” and I went to
the movies and who paid for what.
That’s because it’s in the phone.
Heaven help me if anything happens to that.
On the other hand…
We’ve been having a beautifully cool summer so far.
Temperatures rarely go above 90 or below 60.
I’m not spending much time in the swimming pool; but that’s
mostly because I’ve grown beyond the usefulness of “walking in the
shallow end”. Instead I walk
on the treadmill.
And that brings up a new issue:
I definitely need to invest in some good athletic shoes.
Right now I’m slowly wearing out a pair of very expensive sandals
that were never built for so much walking.
So shoes are now on the shopping list for this weekend.
There’s always time for shopping.
Love, as always,
Pete
