Dear Everyone:
Presidents' Day Weekend was my weekend for big ticket items.
On Saturday, “Jeannie” and I went to the Big, Blue Electronics Warehouse
Store and bought two LED TVs.
I paid for them both, but “Jeannie” has already paid me back,
plus for the
Oregon Shakespeare Festival tickets for next September.
I spent that Sunday morning helping “Jeannie” to set up her new TV.
When we were finished, I went back to my place and then went to
the mall to look at
washing machines and
dryers.
When I lived at the
townhouse, I had a pair of extra capacity
washer and dryer that I really liked.
I couldn’t take them with me because they would never fit in the
laundry closet at the condo.
So for almost a year now, I’ve been using the puny combination
washer/dryer that came with the place.
I don’t like them.
The washer has a bleach dispenser, but no
fabric softener dispenser.
And it can’t hold as much, so I have to do more loads.
What it can handle would qualify as medium on my old machine.
As for the dryer, my choices are:
Timed drying on high, timed drying on low, and “auto dry” on
medium (permanent press).
This means that I don’t get to choose how long to dry things on medium.
The dryer “automatically” shuts down when it has determined that
the fabrics are actually dry.
Only this dryer seems to think that things should still be damp when you
put them on. And there’s no
way for me to know when the dryer is going to stop.
I tried using a timer, but the amount of time per cycle doesn’t
add up. So the dryer just
stops when it feels like it and if I’m not right near it to hear it
stop, then the clothes just sit and wrinkle.
This does not make me happy.
So I measured the closet (34”x38”x94”) and the closet doorway (29”x84”)
and took those measurements with me to the mall.
At the appliance department, I found a salesman and basically
said, “What’s the best combo you have that will fit in this space?”
He said, “This one right here.”
The washer has a drawer that you pull out and fill with detergent,
softener, bleach, whatever and push back in.
The washer dispenses what needs dispensing when it’s needed.
It can accommodate a “queen-size comforter”.
The dryer not only has an alarm that tells you when it’s
finished, it even lets you choose how long you want it to continue to
tumble until you’re ready to deal with it.
They’re designed to stack on top of each other, as they were set up in
the store. And I could
easily reach the buttons at the top front of the dryer.
The dryer was on back order, so they will be delivered this
Saturday. I can hardly wait.
By the way, they are my Birthday present to me.
Back to “Jeannie’s” new TV.
She took the cable box down to the cable company and traded it in on a
new HD box. I went up last
Sunday to program the cable
remote so it could talk to the TV.
That didn’t work.
Later I realized which step I had left out, so next weekend, I’ll get
that done. In the meantime…
Oh, my! What a picture she gets!
And lots and lots of new channels in HD.
I may just have to go to my cable company and get an HD box.
After all, my cable bill isn’t nearly high enough yet.
Love, as always,
Pete
