The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

December 3, 2009

Dear Everyone:

The actor Charlton Heston once wrote:  “When the director comes to you at 2:00 in the afternoon and asks, ‘Can you go on tonight as Brutus?’, there’s only one possible answer:  ‘You bet!’”

My decommissioning team had an important meeting this afternoon.  The meeting ended at 4:00, which would have given me just enough time to get back to my office, gather up my things and head home to write the Weekly Letter.  When the Project Manager (PM) asked, “Do you have time for a little ‘post-meeting meeting?’, the only answer was, ‘Sure.’”

So she paid for another hour of my time and I was left with very little time this evening, so this is going to be a short Letter.  Not that there’s that much to report.

The Good News Is:  My right shoulder, the one with bursitis, is much better.  I’ve even begun shampooing my hair with both hands again.  I am being careful not to get too complacent, still reaching for most things with my left hand; but it’s definitely on the mend.  My back is getting better as well, mostly thanks to about $160 worth of lumbar-supporting cushions in various places.  (Three at home, one at work and one in the car.)

Last week was the most restful vacation time I’ve had all year.  Usually I spent vacation getting the new place ready to move in, moving, getting the old place read to sell, rushing up to Oregon a couple of times.  Last week I just hung around the house, although I did take the time to clean up the patio and put up holiday lights.

We had a very low-key Thanksgiving with salad, “half-baked” pizzas, cake and ice cream.  On Friday, “Marshall” took us all to Yountville where we had a sumptuous lunch and visited a winery.

After tomorrow, I will have exactly two weeks left at work for the year.

Love, as always,

Pete
