The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

April 30, 2009

Dear Everyone:

This business of moving into the new place and fixing up the old place is starting to become a second job.

Last Sunday morning, when I woke up and rolled over in bed, one muscle in my back yelled, “No!  Don’t do that ever, ever again!”  The muscle had pulled itself in the night, probably due to all the extra bending, lifting and straining that came with moving.

Then I found out, Tuesday evening, that “Jeannie” had arranged for a charity to come to the old place and haul away all the furniture that I had left behind.  Trouble was, not all of the furniture had been cleaned out.  So I spent last night huffing and puffing, and bending and lifting more than I should have.

As a result, my back is killing me.  To the extent that I can’t sit here at the computer for very long before I have to get up and move around a bit.  So, short Letter this week.

The Good News Is:  “Richard” and “Frankie” are flying to California next Wednesday to help out.  “Frankie” is coming into Oakland in the afternoon.  “Richard” is coming to San Jose in the evening.  Next weekend, we’re gonna have a Paintin’ Party.  Anyone else who wants to join in is welcome.  I have no doubt that pizza will be involved at some point.

In other news…

Things are getting interesting at work.  We have a new Director of the IM Academy.  And someone recently discovered that we have not been recovering our costs for the Academy because no one has been processing the billing since last October.  The SharePoint Foundations is supposed to bring in $250 per student.  Power Users is $1250 per student (two days and includes meals.)  IM Fundamentals is $850.  But the people who processed the billing last year just dropped it when IM Consulting took over the training.  Didn’t even mention it to us.

We had a meeting today with some finance people and figured out what we need to do to bill for all of the classes going back to January.  But the previous year’s books are closed, so management will just have to eat it for last year.  Oh, well.

It will take some work to manually compile the information needed to run the billing up until now.  Then we’ll figure out a process for a more automated approach going forward.  Which means I’ll have plenty of work to do until “Richard” and “Frankie” arrive.  Then I’m on vacation for at least four days.

Programming Note:  It’s doubtful that there will be a Letter next week.  I’ll be busy picking “Richard” up at the San Jose Airport.  Don’t know about the following week yet; but you can bet I’ll have some interesting news after the Paintin’ Party.

Love, as always,

Pete
