Love, As Always, Pete

The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

July 12, 2007

Dear Everyone:

This will be short.  Last week I forgot to mention that I would be going out of town this week.  In fact, I sort of forgot that I was going out of town this week until about Tuesday when it hit me:  “Hey!  I’m going out of town this week!  I’d better start getting ready.”

I’m going to Las Vegas for the annual ARMA Pacific Region Leadership Conference this Friday and Saturday.  (Everybody by now should know that ARMA stands for Association of Records Managers and Administrators.)  I am, once again, the Vice President of the Mt. Diablo Chapter.  The Leadership Conference is for the members of each Chapter’s Board of Directors.  We’re supposed to learn “leadership skills”, whatever that means.

I wasn’t sure if I would be able to attend this year.  We had a new supervisor coming in and it would be at our first Performance Management Planning (PMP) meeting that I would initially bring up the subject as part of my Learning Action Plan (LAP).  In the meantime, I went ahead and booked a room at the hotel.  You can always cancel the room later, but they go quickly, so I didn’t want to wait until the last minute.

As soon as I mentioned the Leadership Conference, our new supervisor said, “You should go.”  So I contacted our Chapter Treasurer, as she was making the reservations for all of us, to add my name to the list.  And I already had the room.

And the hotel is a “non-gaming” hotel, which I assume means no casino in the lobby.  It’s expected to be 109 degrees in the shade the whole time we’re there, so I’m not planning on going anywhere outside the hotel.  Maybe I’ll bet a quarter at the airport.

Love, as always,

Pete
