Dear Everyone:
I had to stop at the store on the way home from work to pick up super glue and cat food.
Last week got completely discombobulated because of “Jeannie’s” remodel. Hence, no Letter last week. By the time I realized that I hadn’t done a Letter, it was too late.
On the plus side, I did get a lot of things done around the house; so I’m not sorry I took the time off from work. The idea was that the “Tile Guy” would start laying the new floor at “Jeannie’s” place on Tuesday of last week and seven days later, she would be able to move back in. So I took Wednesday of that week through Tuesday of this week as vacation.
“Jeannie” is not one to hold to a timetable. More about that in next week’s Letter. The bottom line: “Jeannie’s” cats are staying with me for longer than I had anticipated and that’s why I ran out of cat food and had to buy more on the way home tonight.
In other news…
You’ve all heard of ARMA, the Association of Records Managers and Administrators. And you know that I’m Vice President of our local chapter. The fiscal year runs from July through the following June. Last June, after the same Board was installed for this year, the chapter President quietly informed me that I was voted “Chapter Member of the Year”.
This was great news as I had really worked hard, doing lots of extra-effort stuff to get the award. (It does impress the management at work.)
Traditionally, the chapter President presents the award at the first chapter meeting of the new fiscal year. Since most chapters don’t have meetings during the summer, that’s usually in September or October.
However, this last October, I wasn’t able to attend the meeting as I was on a business trip to “Hobby”. It would have to wait until November. Unfortunately, I had to attend special training that week and couldn’t make the meeting. In December, I once again had to head off to “Hobby”.
I did make the January meeting. But the chapter President forgot to bring the award with her. The Board decided not to have a meeting in February as it happened to land squarely on St Valentine’s Day.
Finally, last night, all the planets were aligned and the President and I managed to be at the same meeting and she presented the award. So what does it look like? Sort of like an inverted diamond on a small rectangular base. It’s clear plastic with that sort of engraving that “floats” inside the diamond.
However, it has a fundamental design flaw. It broke at the base while in transit. The same thing happened the year before, so it wasn’t unexpected. Our guest speaker last night was none other than the President of ARMA International; and she promised to have a new one made and sent directly to me. In the meantime, a drop of super glue will keep the award together so I can show it off to management.
And that’s why I needed to stop at the store on the way home for super glue and cat food.
Love, as always,
Pete
