Love, As Always, Pete

Dear Everyone:

Resume breathing.  I still have a job.  And it’s the same job as I have now, Active Records Consultant.  I thought I might get one of the new document management system analyst jobs, but evidently there were better candidates available.

It wasn’t difficult to “accept” the position.  It’s not like I’m the least bit ready to retire.  Others, however, have either a difficult decision to make or no job at all,  So I count myself very fortunate.

In other news…

I can’t believe I caught another cold in less than two months!  I came down with a cold right after Christmas, as did “Jeannie” and “Marshall”.  I was just, finally, getting over the cough that kept lingering.  Then last Wednesday, I woke up with that this-may-be-the-beginnings-of-a-cold feeling in the back of my throat.  However, nothing came of it; so I thought I had dodged the bullet this time.

But then, on Thursday, I again woke up with this-may-be-the-beginnings-of-a-cold and by Friday morning, the verdict was in:  I have a cold.  I’m over the worst of it now, but I’ll be coughing for another three weeks, at least.

The cold also altered my plans for the three-day weekend.  I had intended to do some work on “Jeannie’s” two laptops.  Instead I zoned out on cold medications.  I mostly just sat around feeling like half the Seven Dwarves:  Dopey, Sleepy, Sneezy and Grumpy.  And watched TV a lot.

I did feel up to working on the first step towards cleaning up “Jeannie’s” old laptop by Sunday afternoon.  This consisted of copying, one at a time, the “deleted” files in a special directory from the old PC to a diskette.  When the diskette became full, I popped it out of the old computer and into the new one.  While the files from the diskette were copying onto the new computer, I was already copying more files from the old one to another diskette.

All of this went on as I caught up on deferred viewing from last week.  In about a day and a half, I had moved over 100 megabytes of files from the old PC to the new one.  (The reason for this is that the new PC has a much larger hard drive.  It also has the ability to copy files to a CD, which is the ultimate destination for all the “deleted” files from old deposition cases.)  I had to quit when it was time to drive to the airport and pick “Jeannie” up from her return trip from Oregon.

There’s still over 300 megabytes to go, but it’s a good start.

This weekend, once again, we have hopes of picking out a new television for “Jeannie”.  And, while I was at the drugstore, getting more cough medicine last night, I spotted a delightful little fax machine, something “Jeannie” has been looking for the past couple of months.  So I snapped it up for a song ($69.99) and I’ll take it up to her place this weekend and get it all set up.

And print out extra-simple, step-by-step directions for its use.

Love, as always,

Pete

PS.  The other three Dwarves were Bashful, Doc and Happy.
