Dear Everyone:
I have a cold this week. “Jeannie” also has a cold. If “Marshall” has a cold, then we picked it up last Sunday as that was the only time all three of us were together.
Every few weeks, “Marshall” would make plans to
come out to the
Bay Area
and pay us a visit. Every
few weeks, he’d have to cancel at the last minute.
This past weekend, we had received an invitation to attend a
fashion show in
At the last minute, “Marshall” didn’t cancel.
So he and “Jeannie” went into the City for shopping, etcetera. And I went to the fashion show alone, returning with the shopping brochure and swatches. “Jeannie” and I will decide this Saturday what to order.
On Sunday, I met “Jeannie” and “Marshall” at a
champagne brunch in
So far, I haven’t even gone through an entire box of Kleenexes. How bad can that be?
In other news…
An electronic document management system (EDMS) is any system designed to manage electronic documents. Why? Because more and more official company records are being stored electronically and, darn it!, somebody needs to manage them. Ever try to find that all-important spreadsheet that Joe Blow stored on his C:\ drive right before he went on vacation for a month? For that matter, ever try to find a document you stored, but can’t remember what you called it?
And this just in: Some law firms are beginning to require that a defendent in a lawsuit provide records in electronic format even if there is a paper copy of it on file.
Also, as a result of the Merger With That Other Company, suddenly there are twice as many documents to manage as before. Something needs to be done. Preferably while there are still “merger funds” available to pay for such a system.
In the meantime, there’s this push to “standardize” and get everyone “on the same page”. So a team was formed to find the best EDMS for everyone in the Company to use. They’ve been working on it for over a year. Occasionally, there would be a sighting of the project, like an iceberg floating off in the distance.
From time to time, I would be “volunteered” to help with testing. Then nothing more would be seen or heard until the next rare sighting.
Until this week.
On Tuesday, the day my cold began to manifest itself (anyone know the incubation period for the common cold?), I spent the day being trained on the new “Global Document Management System”. Today, I spent the day working with several of the team members. Next Wednesday, I’ll start helping with training new users here in the Bay Area. There’s something like 40 separate “projects” around the country all getting started at pretty much the same time.
The Global Document Management System has taken off like the proverbial rocket. Looks like I’m going to have lots to keep me busy for the next few months. Not that my other projects have fallen by the wayside. I’m still having loads of fun going through Corp “Winks’” boxes, looking for likely candidates to hand off to unsuspecting recipients. And my little mini-project for the company telephone operators may actually get started next week.
All in all, lots to do. No time for a cold here.
Love, as always,
Pete
