Dear Everyone:
Tomorrow is Moving Day, so that made today Packing
Day. After all these months,
I finally have an official “space” in Company
Except when I’ll be in “Livermore”, anyway. For one thing, this new cubicle has little to no storage space; no overhead cabinets; no file drawers; no bookcase. So I’m going to be leaving a lot of things in “Livermore” unless I discover I need something. I already told “Murray” that I wasn’t giving up my “Livermore” cubicle. Since there are still about a half-dozen currently unoccupied cubicles, this won’t present a problem.
On the other hand, I understand that there are plans in my group, “Global Records Consulting”, to hire more contract workers to work on merging records from “Another Company”. These contractors will need someone to “baby sit” them. So the current plan (subject to change without notice, of course) is that I’ll spend at least one day a week in “Livermore”.
So, as to packing…
Way back in the early 1990’s, I had two offices, one in
“Livermore”, one in
Bottom line: When the movers arrive, they will find five boxes, one fan, one wastebasket, and one ergonomic chair. That’s all. Some things I’ll move myself, like art work, the flower arrangement “Jeannie” gave me years ago. And, of course, the laptop computer.
This will travel with me from “Pleasanton” to “Livermore” and back. I have a special carrying case, with wheels, on order and hope that it arrives soon. It will also have space for files, diskettes, and just about anything else I need to keep on hand.
And I’m going to be one very busy puppy. Several new projects are coming out of the wings, just as the Big Project (converting from the previous records management application to the “new” one) is winding down. Speaking of the Conversion, it went off with the usual hitches and hobgoblins, but appears to be settling down. We get our official training tomorrow. Everything “goes live” next Monday.
In other news…
“Jeannie” had too much work to do last weekend, so I toddled on over to the theater and saw Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones by myself. It is ten years later than Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. Precocious little eight-year-old Anakin Skywalker is now an eighteen-year-old apprentice Jedi Knight, and quite the junior stud-muffin. Queen Amidala, having served two terms, is now Senator Padme, representing her planet in the Senate.
There’s an evil plot to overthrow the government. Someone is building an army of droids. Someone else is growing an army of clones. Anakin and Padme go one way; Obi-Wan Kenobi goes another. Minor characters from the original Star Wars film make an appearance here and there. (People who really pay attention to insignificant details will notice that a character who changes relationships with good, old (yet to be conceived) Luke Skywalker between the original first and third movies, changes relationships again here.)
There’s a big, climactic battle, several in fact. Master Yoda throws down his walking stick and proves once and for all that he can do more than muddle his syntax. Christopher Lee proves that he can play the same villain here as he did in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
All in all, an excellent reason for sitting in air conditioned darkness on a hot summer afternoon for two and a half hours.
Love, as always,
Pete
