Dear Everyone:
This is not so much a Letter as a Quick Note to say
that I just don’t have time to write a Letter this week.
Last Tuesday, during a meeting, my boss asked when
we could start converting to the new
Records
Management software. I
said I needed at least three weeks to clean up the data in the current
system. This is based on the
problems we discovered during the test conversion and want to have
already cleared out of the way for the Real Conversion.
With this knowledge in hand, he decided that the
upcoming three-day weekend was the optimum time to start the Conversion.
That’s five days in which to get three-weeks’ worth of work done
and that means a lot of late nights at the office.
And, wouldn’t you know it, it’s also time for the
every-other-month
Home Owners
Association Board of Directors meeting.
Now, I realize that some people might think serving on two Boards
(HOA and ARMA, which also has a Board
Meeting this week) is more than one person should take on, particularly
when performing
Herculean feats in
databases; but I’ve discovered there can be a real advantage to
serving on your HOA Board.
Last Christmas, I realized that my outdoor storage
shed tends to leak in the winter.
I reported it to the property manager; but there was no rain at
the time, so he said to keep an eye on it and let him know if it leaked
again. During a particularly
heavy rainfall last week, I realized that water was pouring onto my
shed’s roof because the rain gutters on our building were filled with
leaves. (This also happens
to be where the electric meters are housed.)
I called the property manager, who instantly knew
who I was because I’d come to the meetings.
In just a few days, there he was, up on the roof, not only
cleaning out the gutters, but also finding a tennis ball that had become
wedged in the rain spout.
Bottom line: My shed has
been bone dry ever since.
Enjoy your long weekend.
I’ll be spending most of it riding herd on data-extracting
computers. But I’ve been
semi-promised another one of those “Comp Days” later.
Love, as always,
Pete
