Love, As Always, Pete

The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

November 2, 1997

Dear Everyone:

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I have not yet moved to my new home in San Ramon.  As the poet wrote:

The best laid schemes of mice and men

Gang aft a-gley.”

(Pretty good for someone whose Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations is currently sealed up in one of 14 paper grocery bags in the second bedroom.)

This particular gang aft a-gley struck last Tuesday morning when my San Ramon agent called to tell me that she had heard from the woman at the title company, who had heard from the woman at the other title company, that my buyer had not yet come in to sign the title documents.  Escrow was supposed to close the following day.  A call to my Concord agent revealed that the buyer’s financing had not yet been approved.

This put the brakes on everything.  Until escrow is closed on the condo, it can’t close on the townhouse.  Lots of knuckle-biting for a couple of days, but everything is OK now.  The movers will be coming on Wednesday instead of last Friday.  And I will be completely moved by Thursday, rather than yesterday.

Actually, it works better for me because the cable company couldn’t install the cable at the townhouse until this Tuesday.  (In the middle of a Sweeps Month, no less!)  And it gives me more time for packing.  I’ll take vacation days Tuesday through Thursday to facilitate the Great Move.

However, this means that I won’t have time to write a Letter this week, hence this Note.

Love, as always,

Pete

PS.  I just realized I’ve already packed the envelopes and will now have to figure out which box they’re buried in.  P.
