Dear Everyone:
I have entered the realm of Real Estate.
On Monday, I spent over an hour signing a gazillion forms.
Yesterday, 17
real estate
agents left their cards in my dining room.
(Before you get too excited, 15 of them work for the Realtor
who’s listing the place.) On
Tuesday, I looked at the first of what will probably be many prospective
townhouses in the Dublin-Livermore-Pleasanton-San Ramon area (loosely
referred to as the
Tri-Valley Area). It
doesn’t get much more exciting than this.
The townhouse I looked at in
Pleasanton
is in the same complex that “Elaine” lives in.
On the plus side, “Elaine” has already established the land speed
record for getting to work from there and can advise as to the best
route. Also, it would come
with a built-in neighbor and a built-in potential cat-sitter, should I
decide to get a pet. On the
down side, it’s 26 years old, has only 1-½ bathrooms, and even with
three bedrooms, still has less floor space than my current place.
So we’ll keep looking for now.
I had decided to wait until after the Leadership
Development Conference in
San Jose
to actually get started on this.
I’ve read where the most interest in your place occurs within the
first two weeks of it being listed.
This is because all the real estate agents in the area have
already seen what’s out there and they’re looking for fresh meat.
So I decided to set it up for that two-week period to coincide
with our annual pilgrimage to
Ashland.
That way I spend less time getting out of the way of agents
towing buyers around. If
someone should actually make an offer while I’m gone, “Lenore” already
has my room number at the “Cleopatra”.
The Leadership Conference was intended for
ARMA chapter leaders, but a lot of
the content applies nicely to work as well.
I’ve already turned a piece on teamwork over to my boss to look
at. As for the rest, we got
some good material from people who have (literally) made records
management their life. The
Mt Diablo Chapter is now
officially official. Those
of us at the Conference were sworn in by the Region VI Vice-president.
This was the main reason for my staying for the final dinner
which managed to go on for over
3-½ hours. (Like I said,
these people have no lives.)
We’re still trying to get the full Board together,
but it can wait until after Ashland.
As for the condo, I’ll leave the drapes open and all the lights
and the air conditioning on (in case you haven’t heard, we’re having a
heat wave) during the day for the rest of this week.
“Lenore” and her horde of agents
can do whatever they want with it next week.
After that, we’ll see.
No movie reviews.
Been busy. And
couldn’t find anything that looked worth the time and money.
Love, as always,
Pete
