The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

Dear Everyone:

Another Halloween means another November election right around the corner.

I don’t really care about the Presidential election.  Clinton’s on the left, Dole’s on the right and we’re stuck in the middle.  Oh yeah, and Ross is out on Planet 11%.  (Have you ever noticed that Dole looks like the Grinch Who Stole Christmas; Clinton looks like the Pillsbury Dough Boy on a Bad Hair Day; and Perot still looks like the funny little gnome he looked like four years ago?)

No, it’s the local stuff that I’m getting tired of.  If I have to hear one more “Paid for by Taxpayers Against Frivolous Lawsuits” on the radio, I may just blow a gasket.

Ditto for “Paid for by the Coalition of Taxpayers Opposed to Oversized Lawyers’ Fees.”  That one sounds a little ambiguous.  Are the taxpayers only opposed to lawyers who have a weight problem?  And of course, in this case “taxpayers” is spelled i-n-s-u-r-a-n-c-e--c-o-m-p-a-n-i-e-s.  They’re the only ones who blame everything on the lawyers.  If it was the lawyers trying to pass or defeat some stone silly proposition, it would be “taxpayers against greedy insurance companies.”  Thank God there’s only a few days left.

In other news...

You may recall that I “volunteered” to be Vice-president of Public Affairs at the local chapter of ARMA (Association of Records Managers and Administrators) earlier this year.  At the first full meeting of the Board of Directors, one of the first things we decided on was that the full Board would only meet once a quarter instead of every month.  We had our second meeting this week, which is unfortunate since it gets in the way of preparing for Halloween.  However, apart from that, and some time spent playing with my Access database (which gets filed under “Research and Development”), ARMA hasn’t taken up too much of my time.  If I could only figure out a way to work in Access and carve a pumpkin simultaneously, I’d be OK this week.

Last month, I took the Christmas List with me to Oregon so people could pick who they wanted to get this year.  Apparently, I didn’t make myself clear, or nobody was really that interested.  Anyway, no one picked any names, so this weekend, “Jeannie” and I did the honors.  The list is attached for those people who need it.

We’re finally getting some rain around here.  Also wind and power outages.  It’s beginning to look like autumn has arrived.

No movies this week, as I spent Saturday getting a flu vaccination and Sunday resetting all the clocks at my place and “Jeannie’s”.  However, “Jeannie” has provided a modicum of amusement in the attached “Hot Line”.

Enjoy.

Love, as always,

Pete
