Dear Everyone:
Still burning the midnight oil getting CRMIS data into
Versatile.
We got “Hobby” (the second
largest) in by the end of the day last Friday, so that they could start
with the new system Monday morning. It
meant staying until after 9:00 Friday night, but that way I didn't have
to come into the office on Saturday. Good
thing, since I didn't wake up until about 11:30 Saturday morning.
I hope to get out of here a little earlier tonight, but I want
“Livermore” to be able to start with the new system on Monday.
After that, we just have some
cleaning up to do on some pesky little details, like just which shelf
is this box on?
This "do it now, fix it later" approach works, but it can backfire on
you. Some of the problems were
encountering with this Conversion stemmed from the last Conversion
(“That Other Company” to Company) about six years ago.
The "fix it later" part kind of
fell off the priority list in some cases.
I don't intend to let that happen this time, as far as I am able
to do the "fixing". Some of the
work will have to be done by other people, each with their own priority
list. But you know what they say:
"You can lead a horse to water; but if you can get him to float on his
back, you've really got
something!"
This will probably be my last Letter for this year.
I'm supposed to be on vacation
next week, but will probably come in for at least a few days to make
sure that people can live without me for nine consecutive working days.
We are allowed to extend 1994
vacation days into 1995 if work requires it; but once started, you have
to take all the time in a lump.
Since I didn't have to work last weekend, I had a choice between going
to a movie and shortening my new coat (I could tell it was too long by
the way I kept stepping on it). Naturally,
I tried to do both; and, naturally, I bit off more than I could chew in
one Sunday. “Jeannie” didn't want
to see
Disclosure,
since she says she's tired of seeing
Michael Douglas
play "the same character again" i.e., middle-aged male threatened by
predatory female (Fatal
Attraction,
Basic Instinct).
But this movie is different.
This movie was filmed in
Seattle.
I even recognized a few locations. As
for the middle-aged male threatened by a predatory female, the movie
follows the
book quite closely, although it tends to overlook certain details
that were rather important in the book. If
you've read the book, you'll know that the first hour and 45 minutes of
the movie are really…but then, I don't want to spoil the "surprise" for
those who haven't read it. On the
other hand, it won't hurt a bit if you wait for this one to come out on
video.
As for Douglas playing the same character over and over, I guess with
two Oscars on the
mantle, he can pretty much do whatever he wants.
As you can see from the enclosed, it's Christmas on the Internet.
Everyone have a safe and Happy Holiday! See you next year.
Love, as always,
Pete
PS. I got the coat finished
Tuesday night. And “Jeannie” says
not to worry about taking the time to clean my apartment.
She says she has dust bunnies big
enough to have names. So until
mine start showing definite personality traits, I can relax.
The Ashland tickets came in and
we have great seats next year.
