The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

Dear Everyone:

More notes on Seattle:

It took “Jeannie” less than two hours to locate the most important landmark in the city.  Nordstrom's department store.  No matter where you are in Seattle, you're either north, south, east or west of Nordy’s.

“Jeannie” determined this by going to the concierge at our hotel, who turned out to be a soul-mate (or maybe, a "sale-mate").  She not only told us how to get to Nordstrom's, she also told us how to go through Nordy’s to get to Bon Marche "who are having a One Day Sale today".  When “Jeannie” went to see “Dee Dee” in Snohomish Falls, the concierge gave her directions to the town and the nearby factory outlets.

By the way, I wasn't that far off on my guess how to spell "Snoqualome Falls", the little community used for location shots for the TV series Twin Peaks.  It's actually spelled Snoqualmie Falls.  I determined this by looking it up in my Complete Directory to Prime Time Network TV Shows (1946-Present), such a useful reference book.  Would you like to know who played Eddie Haskell in Leave it to Beaver in 1957?  No?  OK.

A lot of the Sessions I attended in Seattle had good information, but I think the one that will do me the most good in the very near future is:  "Comparing Apples and Oranges:  A Method of Evaluating and Selecting Records Management Software".

Sound familiar?  That's what my Records Management Software Evaluation Project (RMSEP) is all about.  Right now, we've narrowed our search down to one Apple, one Orange, and one last-minute Pomegranate.  The Session has given me tools that should help me keep my Team roped together on the same track.  Hopefully the right track.  We don't have that much time left until the end of the year.

And speaking of time, don't you think it's time I send out the Christmas List?  So do I.  It's enclosed in this week's letter.

In other news…

My Destruction Approval Quality Improvement Team had its final Guidance Review meeting and I believe we passed with flying colors.  We still have some loose ends to tie up; but in essence, the Improved Process is in place and will go forward at the beginning of next year.  Break out the champagne.

I have next Monday as another Vacation Day, so I'm going to have a plumber come out and look at my faucets.  I noticed recently that one of the ones that feed into my washing machine has started turning green and fuzzy, like an orange that should have been thrown out about a month ago.  It's also showing the tiniest drip, one that evaporates before it can do anything.

This is similar to what happened to the top of my water heater last year, only less so.  It's corrosion, caused by the excess salt and minerals in the local water.  This time, I want to catch it before it becomes a disaster.  I can fix a minor drip; but anything that requires shutting off the main water valve, I prefer to leave to the professionals.  And, as long as the plumber is here, I'm going to have him/her check anything else that may decide to spring a leak at the worst possible time.

I can use the time waiting for the plumber by studying up on the Election Issues, such as whether to vote for or against the School Voucher.  At least I only have the state and local issues to worry about.  Not like in the City.  Only in San Francisco can you find yourself voting on a ballot measure to make it legal for a ventriloquist's dummy to become a cop.

Love, as always,

Pete
