The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

December 3, 1992

Dear Everyone:

Thought for the day:  Organization gives you the illusion that you're in control.

As for the Christmas Questionnaire, so far I've gotten three (3) returns.  That works out to about 50%, a pretty high response rate.  All three picked Option Number 1.  As for the non-responses (you know who you are), they count as proxies which I get to vote.

Okay, if you are what we used to call "a Wood Child", you will find an envelope in this week's Letter, containing the name of the person for whom you will get a Christmas Gift this year.  Everyone got a person and no one got the same person as last year.  If you don't remember who you got last year, trust me. I kept a list.  That's called being organized.

Next, the tickets have arrived from Ashland and our rooms at the Marc Anthony are reserved. The plays are as follows:

6/29/93

A Flea in Her Ear

Tuesday

6/29/93

Wednesday

Thursday

The tickets are $24 each, so that's $120 per person.  Cash, checks and all major credit cards accepted (but not returned).

How's that for organized?

Thanksgiving was quiet, albeit slightly sticky in places.  “Jeannie” was opening a jar of sweet pickles for me when they suddenly seemed to take on a life of their own.  Not to worry, I had something she could wear while we popped her things into the washer.

The sweet pickles were in memory of those great watermelon pickles that Mother used to make.  Someone at work once brought in a jar of commercially bottled watermelon pickles and we all tried some.  Compared to Mother’s, they were, in a word, pathetic.

Aside from finding sticky spots to wipe up, I pretty much spent the Thanksgiving week quietly.  We only went to one movie, Dracula.  It was okay; but Coppola fell into the same trap that they all do.  He couldn't resist showing more of the Count than Stoker ever intended.  Only Steven Spielberg realized (in Jaws) that not knowing where and what the danger is can be more terrifying than actually seeing it.  Oh well, undoubtedly someone else will remake the movie again and maybe then they'll get it right.

Just think, only three (3) working weeks left in this year.

Love, as always,

Pete
