The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

November  15, 1991

Dear Everyone:

Well, here it is, 5:30 Friday night and I haven't even started my weekly letter.  Busy around here.

“Ashley” and I are now serving on the Project Team to test the IDI Records Management Software package when-and-if it ever arrives.  From now until the middle of January, we plan to spend at least one day a week in Company Park with the rest of the Team brainstorming, planning and, ultimately, testing the software.

The reason for the testing is that this is a “completely” new software.  Not completely new, of course, since it's based on the same software as “IDHS”.  But it's a new application.  And you must test because you don't want to be in production, with real data and have it suddenly disappear on you and have the programmers say:  “Gee, I wonder why it did that?“  Lack of testing is one reason that Voyager I went off on its merry way like it did.  Of course, it'll be back in 500 years, starring in Star Trek:  The Motion Picture.

Unfortunately, being out of the office 20% of the time makes it a little difficult to get my other work done.  But, looking on the bright side: I get to sleep late and eat breakfast at least once a week.

We have a new person to replace “Rowena Chandler”.  Her name is “Miranda Garcia” and she's from Bolivia.  Left the country in a hurry, under a political clout and landed in New York about five years ago not knowing one word of English.  She's a smart cookie.  I have only to show her how to do something once and she's got it.

Now if I can just get the time to show her the once.

You'll notice that there haven't been any movie reviews lately.  That's because I haven't been to the movies for a couple of months.  “Jeannie” did go to see Goldie Hawn's Deceived a few weeks ago and pronounced it hopelessly predictable.  Save your popcorn allowance for something better.

I went shopping at Costco last weekend.  I went in to get two things.  I came out with only four.  Pretty good.  I saved $1.20 on a video tape and "celebrated“ by spending $80 on a new telephone answering machine that will do everything but call in sick for you.

I still need to do some work in Owner History before I go home, so ‘bye for now.

Love, as always,

Pete
