The Weekly Letters, by A. Pedersen Wood

June 14, 1991

Dear Everyone:

Just a short note to say, sorry, no letter this week.  I've been too busy all week, mostly sweating out the work up for my Job Performance Evaluation and being interrupted by people.

Each year, in January, we're supposed to sit down with our supervisor and go over what's expected of us.  Then, during the year, we're supposed to have follow-up meetings to see if we’re still on course.

“Alma” delayed the January meeting for so long that she finally decided (spurred on, no doubt by her manager) to combine the Initial Planning and the mid-year Interim meeting into one.  Sort of a “Here’s what you should have been doing all this year and here’s how well you have/haven't been doing it so far“ encounter.

This meant a lot of preparation on my part, summarizing all the jobs I've been doing so far this year.  It culminated this morning in a meeting with “Alma” that dragged on for over three hours and carried over into the lunch break.  Pretty amicable, all things considered, not much more than 2-3 pints of blood on the floor between the two of us.

Things came out about even.  On the plus side:  I get to turn the more mundane, time-consuming parts of Destruction Approval Tracking over to “Ken White”.  On the minus side:  I have to let him tag along with me the next time I start work on a Retention Schedule.

I might end up spending more time working on computers.  Or, I might not.  Depends on the outcome of a meeting “Alma’s” having with the manager later today.

This has been my week to drive the Big Blue Brute, my vanpool.  A good time to stay off the freeways.  Although that tie-up on the Bay Bridge this morning was not my fault.  That big rig was stuck in two lanes long before we came along.

It looks as though were going to be experiencing a Team Building class for two days next month.  The manager’s idea.  Heaven help him.

Love, as always,

Pete
