Dear Everyone:
Never stand between a man and his first cup of
morning coffee.
One of the advantages to the placement of my office
is that it is directly across the hall from the kitchen.
This means I can brew a pot of
tea in the morning and clean up my cups and things in the evening with
great ease.
One of the disadvantages to the placement of my
office is that it is directly across the hall from the kitchen.
This is because the coffee maker
is in the kitchen. Coffee makers,
by definition, are an “attractive nuisance”. They certainly do attract a
lot of nuisances. I don't think
I've ever been in there that at least one other person hasn't come in
for coffee at the same time.
Not that I have anything against coffee drinkers.
The poor things have to get their caffeine
somehow. It's just that when
two or more coffee drinkers show up at the same time, they invariably
start talking to each other. This
can be very distracting to the person who was trying to work directly
across the hall.
Not much exciting is going on around here right
now. This is not to say that I'm
not up to my armpits in alligators. It's just that they're all the
usual alligators. There is
talk that the Mythical Records Management Study, which was supposed to
start last October, will begin in just over two weeks.
Confidentially, I'm not holding
my breath.
“Jeannie” and I went to the Contra Costa Home and
Garden Show last weekend. This
turned out to be pretty much a waste of time and money ($2.00 each) as
neither of us was in the market for new roofing tiles, a spa (although
we did see a “portable“ one that you can set up “anywhere”), landscaping
or second mortgage financing-while-you-wait.
There were also a startling
number of chiropractors offering a “free spinal screening”, whatever
that meant.
Rather than have our spine screened, we elected to
go to a movie, Toy Soldiers with
Sean Astin (Patty
Duke's son) and
Wil Wheaton late of
Star Trek, The Next
Generation. I had Monday
off as a vacation day and spent it running errands and doing chores that
I didn't get to on Saturday because we were going to home shows and
movies. I also got all caught up
on my deferred viewing, including a 9- hour Australian miniseries that
never needed to be made. Then I
taped five more hours Monday night, so I'm behind again.
“Jeannie” and I discussed the Christmas Ballots,
with all the different options selected by all of us.
We considered the “names out of a
hat” approach. But then I
realized that, since it would be “Jeannie's” hat that we'd use, there
was a strong possibility that six people would receive a slip of paper
reading, “Your person to get a Christmas present for this year is:
“Jeannie”"
Back to the drawing board.
Maybe we can get together and discuss it next July.
Love, as always
Pete
