Dear Everyone:
I have a new friend.
His name is Dell.
Actually, he’s a Dell 316SX and he’ll go from zero to Warp 7 in 3.16
seconds. Compared to my old
PC, this guy is fast.
I have to be careful, especially with the backspace key, which
deletes characters as it backs up.
I’ve been known to erase whole sentences when I only meant to
delete part of a word.
Along with my new friend, I also have a new toy:
DrawPerfect. And no,
I don’t know how to use it.
Yet. But I’d better hurry.
I installed it this morning, then went into an interminable
meeting which is to be continued next Friday.
When I came back to my desk, “Ashley” had been there, trying to
design a button for the upcoming ARMA convention.
I can see that my toy is going to be popular with the rest of the
group.
So far, I
have figured out how to use the Figure Library, which is a
collection of “clip art”, pre-configured pictures like the pumpkin at
the top of the page. I can
choose from pictures or symbols, of animals, sports, business symbols,
military equipment, even a nuclear cloud, should I want to indicate a
particularly difficult day.
Speaking of pumpkins, “Jeannie” and I did get to
the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival a few weeks ago, where we met
“Marshall” and his charming friend, “Bonnie”.
We got some significant early Christmas shopping done, better
than most years. By the time
we’d done the complete circuit (twice) of booths, I was loaded down like
a pack mule. Afterward, we
got genuine Half Moon Bay pumpkins, two for me and three for “Jeannie”.
The three were obviously from the same family and “Jeannie”
didn’t want to split them up.
Then we went up Highway 1 to the City for a late
lunch, or early dinner, at the Hard Rock Cafe before splitting up and
heading for our respective homes.
On Sunday, “Jeannie” is coming over to my place to carve
Jack’O’Lanterns. My place
because a) the pumpkins are there (I have my very own pumpkin patch in a
corner of the dining room) and b) I have a
much larger garbage can than
she does.
As for the weather…
It was my fault entirely.
Mea culpa, mea culpa.
I did it. Last week, I
complained about the unrelentingly cheerful and sunny weather we’ve been
having and that did it.
Angered the gods, I did.
Within hours, the temperatures plummeted into the 70’s and the skies
opened up and sprinkled.
Not enough to get anything really wet, you
understand, just enough to cement three weeks worth of construction dust
to the finish on my car.
There are no less than a parking garage, a hotel and an office building,
all in various stages of completion, within a 2-block radius of the
street where I park each day.
Ashland Update
I have received the brochure (and have already sent
in my membership renewal), but have not had time, since I’m working late
most days, to go over the plays.
I plan to call Mother this weekend to firm up first and second
choices and hope to get the order out next week.
So, be prepared: I’m
going to be wanting money soon.
Love, as always,
Pete
