Pop Quiz:  Which of the following has the highest priority?

A.  Saving lives

B.  Testing report 401 so it can go into production and everyone who uses it will be happy and “Glen” can take all that data out of the test data base, thus saving the company hundreds of dollars.

C.  Tracking Destruction so that hundreds of boxes can be destroyed, thus saving the company even more money.

D.  Writing up little Post-It notes on theatres and museums in San Francisco and the Bay Area for the ARMA convention newsletter.

If you chose D., congratulations!  You qualify to live in “Alma”Land.

Yes, our own silly goose once again has us neglecting our real work to do another “newsletter” advertising the convention next November.  I “volunteered” to get a list of theatres and museums, figuring all I’d really have to do is make a copy of the San Francisco Yellow Pages.  I must admit, I’m startled to find out how many theatres there are, other than the ones I’ve always known, the Orpheum, Golden Gate, Curran, Marines Memorial, etc.  The Geary, damaged by the Loma Prieta quake, is under renovation and ACT is hanging out at the Stage Door these days.

I still need to plow through all the museums; but first, I elected Option A and went to the company blood drive.  Ran into “Ashley Holtz” on the same errand.  He and I are the only ones who participate out of my group.  We each dropped off a pint, picked up some fruit juice (sometimes pineapple, sometimes orange, always apple) and got a free Company travel mug, one of those with two holes in the top.  New slogan:  Company  More than a company…  More than a job.”

(Honestly, they pay people to come up with these things.)

Imagine, if you can, my shock and outrage to discover that the “canteen” at the blood drive had no cookies!!!  Doughnuts, yes.  Fruit juice (guaranteed by the Constitution), of course.  Little packages of cheese and crackers, OK.  But no cookies?  Why do they think we come in and give blood if not for the free cookies?

You know all those questions they ask you at the beginning?  Like, “Have you been out of the country in the past 3 years?”  The ones where the nurse is about 4 questions ahead of you already marking “No” to questions you haven’t answered yet; so when you say “Yes”, she has to back up and figure out which one you said yes to.

Ever feel like throwing her/him a curve?

Q:  “Have you ever had sex with a man who’s had sex with another man?”

A:  “I’m not sure.”

Q:  “You’re not sure if he’s ever had sex with another man?”

A:  “I’m not sure if what we had was sex.”

Back in the real world…

Matt flew out last Saturday to stay at “Jeannie’s” place and “Marshall” drove up from Fresno, so we decided to spend the day touring the Wine Country.  The weather was perfect, the wineries beautifully landscaped.  Our original plan to have brunch went a little off course, but we had a nice lunch outdoors at a deli in St. Helena (I think it was St. Helena) and a good time was had by all.

By the way, Stag’s Leap Vineyard charges for wine tasting, but offers free apple juice for the designated driver.

Those apple juice people really get around.

Love, as always,

Pete
