Dear Everyone:
Four people are going on a trip together:
One Amiable, one Analytical, one Driver and one Expressive.
Expressive:
“Look at the great car I designed for our trip!”
Analytical:
“Looks good. Where’s
the engine?”
Expressive:
“Engine?”
Driver (already behind the wheel):
“Come on, everybody.
Let’s go! (Vroom,
vroom,
VROOM!)”
Amiable:
“OK.” (Starts putting
luggage in the trunk.)
Analytical:
“Wait a minute. Where
are we going?”
Expressive:
“We can decide that later.
Let’s go!”
Analytical:
“We can’t leave until we know where we're going.”
Amiable:
“OK.” (Starts taking
luggage out of the trunk.)
Driver:
“I know where we’re going.
Get in.”
Amiable:
“OK.” (Starts putting
luggage back in the trunk.)
Analytical:
“Where’s the map?”
Expressive:
“Map?”
Driver:
“We don’t need a map. We’ll
find out where we’re going when we get there.”
Analytical:
“I still say we can’t go until we get an engine.”
Amiable:
“OK.”
Expressive:
“Engine?”
Anybody recognize themselves?
(Of course, the initial fallacy is that these people could agree
to go anywhere together in the first place.)
This is a lot like my ORT (Organization Review Team) meetings.
“Lorraine’s” a Driver.
I’m an Analytical (great list makers).
I suspect “Ruth” is an Amiable.
“Carol”, not having attended any of the meetings so far, is an
unknown quantity.
Last week we had our first real working meeting, in
which we “discussed” some general “rules of thumb” that we “might” apply
to entering organization names into the Global Organization Validity
Table which we will eventually attain.
The GOVT is our ultimate goal.
“Lorraine’s” goal is to get there as fast as
possible. My immediate goal
is to slam on the brakes. As
I told “Alma” after seeing “Lorraine’s” PROFS note to “Sarah Thatcher”:
“There’s rough weather ahead.”
I STILL say, we can’t get there without a map AND an engine.
In other news…
Many thanks for all the Birthday cards, gifts and
wishes. “Jeannie” and I
decided to celebrate on Saturday, since we were both too tired to do it
after work Friday. In
complete accord, we both forgot that Saturday being St. Patrick’s Day
meant that the restaurants would be booked up.
We found out when I called the Hungry Hunter to make a
reservation and was told that the only opening was at 4:45.
Actually, that worked out beautifully.
We were seated immediately (being only 10 minutes late) and got
the “Twilight Dining” special for a little bit less than a regular
dinner. Plus, we got out of
the restaurant and home before dark and before all the amateur drunks
were out on the road. We
spent the evening watching TV, eating the ice cream cake (Baskin &
Robbins) that “Jeannie” got me, and drinking green champagne.
Gotta run.
I have no less than three (3) computer classes this month and one
if them is right after lunch today.
After 2½ years, I’m finally learning how to use all this
equipment.
Love, as always,
Pete
