Dear Everyone:
Somebody
put this week on Fast Forward!
I can’t believe it’s Thursday already.
On Monday afternoon, I had a meeting with some
people from TAB (they make filing equipment and supplies) and “Patricia”
and “Sharma” from CUSA
“Public Manipulation”.
This is an Active Files Project that “Rowena Chandler” and I are
working on together.
Up until now, it hasn’t been very “active”, partly
because “Public Manipulation” dragged their feet (we sent them the
original proposal back in June) and partly because the Bay Bridge
problem was interfering with TAB;s ability to deliver the equipment once
“Public Manipulation” decided that they did, indeed, want to buy it.
Also, “Rowena” has been scheduling as much time in Company Park
as she could to avoid having to cross the Bay.
Monday afternoon, “Jack Williams” (TAB) kicked the
whole Project up to Warp 7 when he said:
“The equipment will be arriving Wednesday.
Can you make all the arrangement?”
This was 3:30 Monday afternoon.
I was supposed to contact Building Management about moving
furniture and filing cabinets; contact Security to let the installers in
to deliver the equipment; contact TAB to let them know that they could
go ahead with the installation; make sure the elevators were padded;
make sure “Public Manipulation” knew what to do… and pick up my van pool
at 4:00.
Needless to say, my van pool was a little late
getting home Monday night.
And “Rowena” was on vacation.
And I was scheduled to be in Company Park on Tuesday.
So Tuesday, I worked in a borrowed office and
played Telephone Tag with myself.
I’d call “Clark”, or “Fred”, or “Caleb” and leave a message with
the conclusion: “Don’t call
me here. Call my phone and
leave a message.” Then I’d
call my phone here in the City to get the messages.
Nevertheless, everything seems to be going
smoothly. The installers
showed up and started taking things apart and putting things together
just like they know what they’re doing.
“Jack” stopped by a few minutes ago, “Rowena’s” back from
vacation to help with whatever needs doing, God’s in His Heaven and
all’s right with the world.
On the home front…
I’m up to my armpits in Christmas Secrets.
My list of Things to Do at home is more detailed than at work,
possibly because it’s more important to me.
The transformation, which I have been planning
almost since the day I moved in, is beginning.
Which is to say:
“Jeannie” and I installed a chandelier in the dining room, taking out
the plain glass globe that the builder had put in.
This was easier than I expected, made easier still by the timely
arrival of my next door neighbor, “Lee”, who is in the construction
business and has installed many an electrical device.
He was nice enough to check the instructions, say “Yes, that’s
the way to do it” and then stand there holding the chandelier while I
screwed things together.
Next step:
Replace the “temporary” bookcases (there since a week after I
moved in) in the second bedroom with free shelves on either side of the
room, put in a futon sofa-bed and move the TV cable into that room.
This will make it a guest room / den / TV room / sewing room /
library / whatever I want room.
I’m really looking forward to it.
Really.
Note to Santa’s helpers:
If anyone is looking for consortium gifts…
“Jeannie” could definitely use some utility shelving in her garage to store all of
her boxes. At the moment,
she tends to park her little CRX outside because the garage floor is all
taken up. A shameless waste
of higher up wall space.
Also, when “Jeannie” moved out of the folks’ place, she took her
phone answering machine with her.
That means Mother and Dad have no (gasp!) answering machine now.
Gotta go.
After tomorrow, I will have only 2 weeks until Christmas
vacation.
Love, as always,
Pete
