November 2, 1989
Dear Everyone:
This will have to be a
very short Letter as I am
busier than a one-armed paper hanger with hives.
Last weekend, I helped “Jeannie” move into her new
apartment. Saturday morning,
the movers arrived promptly between 8:30 and 9:00.
By noon they had emptied the van of all 144 boxes plus furniture.
These were the same 144 boxes that I helped to pack up last
February.
With 144 boxes stacked to the ceiling (as well as
in the garage), “Jeannie”, with her highly refined sense of priorities,
decided that the first thing to do was to cover all of the kitchen
shelves and drawers with contact paper.
This, she proceeded to do, using my kitchen scissors, which she
“borrowed”. (You may recall
that back in February, she borrowed my favorite kitchen scissors and
they got packed into a box and sent to Oregon.
Still up to her old tricks.)
meanwhile, I went through piles of boxes looking for candidates
that could be unpacked.
You will recall that back in February when we
packed these boxes, I insisted on numbering each box and listing them on
an inventory (Records Management strikes again!).
Well, it really paid off last weekend.
You pick out a box, like:
#87. Look at the
list. #87 contains
“flatware, utensils, pots and pans”.
It also has a Yellow Dot on it, indicating Kitchen Items.
However, the kitchen is still being
contact-papered, so put this box in the general vicinity of the dining
room/kitchen area and go on to the next.
Or, better yet, look on the list for the boxes containing lamps
and get them unpacked before it gets dark.
About halfway through the afternoon, “Jeannie” ran
out of contact paper. While
she went out to buy more, I unpacked as many Kitchen boxes as I could.
Not everything is in the best possible place yet, but at least
they’re out of boxes and on the shelves where she can use them.
We worked until 6:30 Saturday night, all day Sunday
and a good part of Monday, which I had taken as a vacation day.
By Monday afternoon, we had emptied most boxes, indicated on The
List those boxes that were still unpacked and where they were (Box #103:
Christmas ornaments –Hall Closet) and pretty much had everything
squared away.
Mind you, this doesn’t mean that “Jeannie” has
actually moved in yet; she’s still living at my place.
But she visits her apartment every day – she’s sort of moving in
by degrees, like easing into a cold swimming pool.
In other news…
Because I took Monday off from work, I seem to be
snowed under with Projects.
Last week, in a staff meeting, “Alma” just happened to mention that I’m
going to be reviewing the “IDHS” User Guide.
Also, “Kevin” and I are trying to draft a checklist for getting
Users onto “IDHS”. We also
met with CITC-HR yesterday (that’s Company Information Technology
Company – Human Resources).
They want help with their Subject Files and look like a good candidate
for “IDHS” as well.
And then there’s “CUSA Public Manipulation”…
Destruction Reviews… CUSA “Entrepreneuring” in
“Hobby”… ARMA… CUSA “Exploitation, Lard & Privateering”, Western Region…
“Heartiness, Ecology & Theft Avoidance”, “Industrial Cleanliness”…
“Heartiness, Ecology & Theft Avoidance”, “Superspend and Squander
Manipulation”… the CRMIS Rewrite… “Navigation & Plunder Management”…
“Enabling Technogiggles Department”… RACF coordinating (which I don’t
even know how to do – yet)… etc., etc., etc.
I guess I have enough to keep me busy until
December 15, which is my last
day at work for this year.
Hopefully, they’ll get the Bridge put back together
before then.
Love, as always,
Pete
PS. I
got my kitchen scissors back!
They were in Box #143, just like I thought they would be.
